• DESCRIPTION

Forum theatre is a highly interactive and participative approach to learning, where the audience determine the direction and conclusion of the scene.  A live case study or 'anti-model' scene is presented to workshop participants and they work together to explore the issues represented.  

Following research undertaken to understand your organisation and your objectives, a realistic workplace scenario is scripted by one of our writers.  The scene is designed to resonate with the group and geared toward easy exploration of the objectives you identified.  It is then rehearsed fully and presented at the event by our professional actors. 

In a facilitated performance, participants engage with the actors to gain insights into the characters and identify key issues represented.  The group then works together to develop strategies or find solutions to any challenges illustrated in the scene, discussing and debating what they have seen.  As they suggest alternative approaches supported by our skilled facilitators, participants can try out their ideas 'live' as the actors improvise and the scene changes to incorporate the groups directions.

In a safe workshop environment prior to real-world application, ideas are refined and enhanced prior to roll-out or implementation.  We research and recreate the environment using theatre-based techniques, with our actors illustrating realistic workplace scenarios.  This allows you to experience natural and instinctive reactions to ideas or designs.  Workshop participants can also become involved in the action as their confidence builds, replacing our actors. 

By stepping into their roles team members can 'rehearse' what they would do in the situation, developing their self-awareness and skills.  The emphasis is on bringing their own style and experience, and on performing instead of 'acting'.

Blueprinting is about creating a 'map' of a process or sequence of events, to allow a refined focus on key areas for development. 

It can be applied to on-stage customer interaction points or a customer journey and back-stage within the organisation.  Participants create their own step by step record of the process, highlighting any successes and areas for improvement.  These points are then  ‘exploded’ in the development of a storyboard, which is an in-depth, scripted analysis of all aspects of the area under discussion.  This can be delivered in an illustrated format or performed live by actors. 

In this way the customer experience is understood in greater detail; exploring motivation, needs, emotions and outcomes.  Internal support processes can be examined in the same way, creating empathy and co-operation.  Activities are undertaken by participants themselves facilitated by the Jel team.
